The Science
Built on Mechanism. Every Dose Disclosed.
Every ingredient in Alpha Serenity was chosen for a reason — and every dose is disclosed and standardized. Here's the full picture.
Why We Left Out Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is the default adaptogen in most stress formulas — and for good reason. It has a long history of traditional use and a growing body of modern research. But a meaningful subset of users report side effects that have been documented across clinical observations: digestive discomfort at higher doses, overstimulation in some individuals, and a subtle emotional blunting that some describe as feeling "flat" rather than calm. For people who get along with ashwagandha, these concerns may be irrelevant. For those who don't, they're the reason they're still looking for something that works.
Alpha Serenity was deliberately formulated without it. Instead, the formula is built on four botanicals and two support compounds — Rhodiola Rosea, L-Theanine, Lemon Balm, and Mucuna Pruriens, with Phosphatidylserine and Magnesium Citrate as bioavailability and cellular-support co-factors — each chosen for a specific mechanism that supports a calm, focused state† without relying on the same pathway as ashwagandha. The result is a stack that can reach people who haven't responded well to standard stress formulas.
None of this is about fear. Ashwagandha is well-tolerated by most people. But "most people" isn't everyone, and the people who didn't get along with it deserve a formula built with them in mind. This isn't anti-ashwagandha. It's a different approach for people who didn't get along with it.

How the 4+2 Stack Works
Rhodiola Rosea
Rhodiola rosea Root · std. 1% Salidroside
Rhodiola rosea is classified as an adaptogen — a plant studied for its ability to support the body's resilience to physical and cognitive stress.† The active compounds salidroside and rosavin are understood to influence the HPA axis (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal), the body's primary stress-response system.† At 400mg standardized to 1% Salidroside, this sits at the upper range of doses studied in human research. Unlike stimulants, Rhodiola does not force energy — it supports the body's capacity to maintain composure under load.† Consistent daily use over 2–4 weeks is where most studied benefits are observed.
L-Theanine
Free-form amino acid
L-Theanine is the amino acid first isolated from tea leaves. At 200mg — the dose used in controlled human trials — it has been studied for its ability to support alpha brain wave activity,† associated with a relaxed yet alert mental state. Its most replicated application is in combination with caffeine: L-Theanine supports a smoother, more focused experience† by modulating the stimulatory edge of caffeine without blunting its cognitive effect. As a free-form amino acid, it requires no digestion and acts relatively quickly. It does not cause sedation.
Lemon Balm Extract
Melissa officinalis Leaf · 5:1 extract
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) contains rosmarinic acid, a compound studied for its interaction with GABA — the brain's primary inhibitory neurotransmitter. Rosmarinic acid has been explored as a GABA transaminase inhibitor, an enzyme responsible for breaking down GABA,† effectively supporting GABA availability.† The 5:1 extract used in Alpha Serenity is equivalent to 1,000mg of raw Melissa officinalis leaf — a concentrated form that delivers the studied compounds at an efficacious level. It complements L-Theanine through a related but distinct calming pathway.
Mucuna Pruriens
Mucuna pruriens Seed · std. 50% L-DOPA
Mucuna pruriens seed is standardized to 50% L-DOPA — the direct biosynthetic precursor to dopamine, the neurotransmitter most associated with motivation, reward, and drive.† At 100mg standardized to 50%, each serving delivers 50mg of bioavailable L-DOPA. Mucuna's inclusion in a calm-focus stack is deliberate: while Rhodiola and L-Theanine address stress resilience and clarity, Mucuna supports the motivational dimension† — maintaining drive and engagement without stimulation. It covers a neurological pathway the other ingredients do not. Standardization is critical with Mucuna; unstandardized extracts have highly variable potency.
Phosphatidylserine
std. to 20% · sourced from soy lecithin
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a phospholipid — a structural component of cell membranes, with the highest concentrations found in brain cells. It plays a role in cell-to-cell signaling and supports the integrity of neuronal membranes.† Human studies on PS have explored its relationship with cognitive function† and supports the body's natural stress response.† At 100mg standardized to 20%, Alpha Serenity delivers the studied dose. Contains soy. See allergen disclosure.
Magnesium Citrate
as Magnesium Citrate · 9% DV
At 37.5mg, this dose is deliberately calibrated as a bioavailability cofactor — not as a standalone magnesium supplement, which typically requires 200–400mg to produce direct relaxation effects. Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including pathways governing neurotransmitter synthesis and nutrient metabolism.† Magnesium supports the absorption and utilization of other nutrients across the formula. Magnesium Citrate is among the most bioavailable forms, with significantly higher absorption than magnesium oxide. At this dose, it supports the uptake and utilization of the other compounds in the stack — functioning as a formula cofactor, not a standalone active.
